The Ministry of Planning and Development, in collaboration with the World Bank, has successfully conducted a comprehensive training program on project appraisal and integrated risk analysis. The training, conducted by Cambridge Resource International, a certified training firm by Queen's University in Canada, took place from April 8 to April 19 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The program aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to effectively assess and analyze public projects. A total of 24 participants from the Ethiopian Road Administration, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Irrigation and Lowland, and experts of the Ministry of Planning and Development took part in the training.

Throughout the training, participants engaged in intensive lectures that covered various aspects of project appraisal, including financial analysis, economic analysis, stakeholder analysis, and sensitivity analysis. The training also incorporated practical case studies, allowing trainees to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios. One such case study focused on a highway road project, aligning with the national effort to promote public-private partnerships in highway projects. Another case study centered around wheat production, aiming to reduce import dependency and explore opportunities for international export.

Trainees successfully constructed models for both sector projects and presented them for review. The models were evaluated for their consistency and robustness of analysis, ultimately showcasing the trainees' ability to develop coherent and reliable project appraisals.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants obtained certificates in Integrated Investment Appraisal and Risk Analysis. This achievement represents a significant milestone for the Ministry of Planning and Development, as well as the Ethiopian government's broader efforts in public investment management reform. The training aligns with the ten-year Development Plan, the Midterm Development and Investment Plan, and the second phase of the homegrown economic reform, further strengthening Ethiopia's capacity for effective project assessment and rationalization of public investments.

This collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Planning and the World Bank underscores their commitment to promoting sustainable development and enhancing Ethiopia's strategic planning and investment processes. Through such endeavors, Ethiopia is poised to achieve its long-term development goals and foster economic growth in the country.
