Bereket Fesehatsion Tesfamariam

Mr. Bereket is an experienced economist and public policy expert with over 15 years in public investment management, development planning, and strategic advisory. His extensive career has spanned various roles within government ministries, international organizations, and research institutions, focusing on initiatives that drive economic growth, enhance public sector efficiency, and ensure effective resource allocation.
Currently, Mr. Bereket serves as the state minister at the Ministry of Planning and Development. He was part of the inaugural team of the National Planning Commission when it was reestablished in 2008, holding various positions within the organization until his appointment as State Minister in September 2024.
During his previous tenure at the Ministry of Planning and Development, Mr. Bereket was responsible for identifying public investment needs, conducting project appraisals, and providing technical advice to strengthen legal frameworks and institutional arrangements for public projects. He played a pivotal role in preparing development and investment plans, developing sector-specific project appraisal guidelines, and harmonizing public investment management at both national and subnational levels.
Before his role at the Ministry of Planning and Development, Mr. Bereket worked in multiple capacities at the House of Federation, where he specialized in intergovernmental fiscal transfer. His work focused on designing equalization transfer mechanisms and facilitating revenue sharing between federal and regional governments.
Mr. Bereket holds a master’s degree in Regional and Local Development Studies from Addis Ababa University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Haramaya University. He has also completed specialized training in public investment management, integrated investment appraisal and risk analysis, performance management, and corporate governance from recognized institutions. His consultancy work includes assessments of Ethiopia's intergovernmental fiscal transfer system, evaluations of revenue potential, and training on fiscal decentralization.
With a comprehensive background in public investment management, development planning, strategic advisory, and governance, Mr. Bereket possesses a diverse skill set and a profound understanding of the complexities involved in driving economic development and managing public resources.
