Minister of Planning and Development

Fitsum Assefa Adela is a highly accomplished economist and politician who has made significant contributions to Ethiopia's development. She is currently the Minister of Planning and Development, a position she has held since 2018. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the country's economic planning and development policies. She is also a member of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia's Board of Directors.

Fitsum Assefa Adela was born in 1979 in Ethiopia. She earned her undergraduate degree in Accounting from Addis Ababa University and her Master's degree in Development Studies from the same university. She then went on to earn her Doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Giessen in Germany.

After completing her education, Fitsum Assefa Adela worked as a professor at the University of Hawassa for over a decade. In this role, she conducted research on a variety of topics related to economic development, including poverty alleviation, environmental sustainability, and agricultural productivity.

In 2018, Fitsum Assefa Adela was appointed Minister of Planning and Development. In this role, she has been responsible for overseeing the implementation of Ethiopia's Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), a 10-year economic development plan. She is a strong advocate for evidence-based policymaking and is committed to using data and research to inform her decision-making.
