Functional Committee Holds First Deliberation Regarding the Second African Climate Summit (ACS2)

The Ministry of Planning and Development of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has announced that preparations are underway for Ethiopia to host the Second African Climate Summit. Following this announcement, the Functional Coordinating Committee for the Summit held its inaugural consultative meeting.
During the meeting, H.E. Mr. Seyoum Mekonnen, State Minister at the Ministry of Planning and Development, stated that Ethiopia, as well as Africans, are resolute in their commitment to actively fulfill their climate change mitigation mission at the international level.
The State Minister further explained that this second African Climate Summit is scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa from September 8-10, 2025, in collaboration with the African Union Commission. He also confirmed that this will be preceded by three-day pre-summit meetings from September 5-7, 2025.
For the success of this Summit, a comprehensive Functional committee,
comprised of representatives from government institutions, civil societies, media, higher education institutions, and development partners, has been established and commenced its work.
H.E. Mr. Seyoum also clarified that the Summit is being prepared with the aim of further enhancing African efforts in climate change mitigation and enabling them to stand united to create a global impact. He added that the cooperation and contribution of all stakeholders are crucial for the success of the Summit.
A foundational plan to guide the Working Coordinating Committee of the Summit was also presented, followed by an extensive discussion.
It is known that the first African Climate Change Summit was held in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2023.
