New York, USA – July 23, 2025
Ethiopia successfully presented its third Voluntary National Review at the 2025 High-Level Political Forum, reaffirming its strong commitment to the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. Led by H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, the presentation highlighted Ethiopia’s integration of the SDGs into its Ten-Year Development Plan and the transformative reforms pursued over the past seven years under the leadership of H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed.
Key achievements include Africa’s largest social safety net supporting over 9.7 million people, significant reductions in maternal and child mortality, quadrupling of pre-primary schools, the Education for All Generation initiative, and nationwide expansion of community-based health insurance.
Ethiopia also showcased major climate action through its Green Legacy Initiative with over 40 billion trees planted, a pioneering ban on non-electric vehicle imports, and its Low Emissions Strategy targeting net-zero by 2050. Economic progress was reflected in tripled electricity access, near-universal 3G coverage, and consistent GDP growth averaging 7.6 percent. With two-thirds of its tracked SDG indicators showing measurable progress, Ethiopia called for renewed global solidarity, fairer trade, and accessible climate and development financing to accelerate progress and ensure no one is left behind.
