H.E. Bereket Fitsehatsion, State Minister of Planning and Development for Ethiopia, presented Ethiopia's experiences in integrating strategic foresight into national planning and budgeting at a UN event today. The session, part of the APRM-UN DESA VNR Lab, focused on fulfilling financial gaps for Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
State Minister Bereket emphasized that strategic planning and governance foresight are crucial for advancing both Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda. He highlighted Ethiopia's Ten-Year Development Plan, which explicitly integrates the 17 SDGs and Agenda 2063, operationalized through Medium-Term Development and Investment Plans.
Mr. Bereket discussed Ethiopia's Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) to close SDG financing gaps through domestic resources, concessional and innovative finance, climate funding, and private capital.
State Minister Bereket concluded by welcoming the APRM's new toolkit on Strategic Planning and Foresight, stating it will help Ethiopia strengthen its forward-looking approaches and enhance its capacity to anticipate future shocks and seize growth opportunities.
